From Giggs to Salah: Champions League appearance kings at every Premier League club
Last Updated on 10 March 2026
For Premier League giants, success in Europe often stretches across decades. But while squads evolve and managers come and go, a few players become permanent fixtures on the Champions League stage.
During the on-going Champions League campaign, Mohamed Salah officially broke an appearance record for Liverpool.
As a result, it gives us an excuse to look at the Champions League appearance leaders for the top Premier League clubs.
Manchester United – Ryan Giggs (141)
No player embodies Manchester United’s Champions League history quite like Ryan Giggs. The Welsh winger made 141 appearances in the competition for United, spanning an incredible two decades from the early 1990s to 2014.
During that time, Giggs lifted the trophy twice, most famously playing a crucial role in the club’s dramatic 1999 treble-winning campaign and again in 2008. His longevity allowed him to play in multiple eras of the competition.
He faced everything from the great Italian sides of the late 90s to the emerging superpowers of the 2010s. Even as his role shifted from explosive winger to composed midfielder, Giggs remained a key figure in Europe.
Chelsea – John Terry (109)
Few players represented Chelsea in Europe with the same authority as John Terry. The club captain made 109 Champions League appearances for the Blues, anchoring the defence during the most successful period in Chelsea’s history.
From the club’s first semi-final runs in the mid-2000s to their historic triumph in 2012, Terry was the defensive leader who rarely missed a European night.
Although suspension kept him out of the 2012 final as per Squawka, his influence across the campaign was undeniable. Over more than a decade, Terry became synonymous with Chelsea’s rise into a Champions League powerhouse.
Manchester City – Bernardo Silva (84)
Bernardo Silva has become Manchester City’s most consistent presence in the Champions League. The Portuguese midfielder has made 84 appearances for City in the competition, playing a central role in the club’s evolution into a European powerhouse under Pep Guardiola.
Known for his work rate, creativity, and tactical intelligence, Silva has featured heavily in City’s deep runs into the tournament.
His contributions were vital during City’s historic 2023 Champions League triumph, where the club finally lifted Europe’s most coveted trophy.
Liverpool – Mohamed Salah (81)
Mohamed Salah has quickly climbed Liverpool’s European appearance rankings since arriving in 2017. With 81 Champions League appearances for the Reds, the Egyptian forward has been at the centre of the club’s modern European resurgence, going past Jamie Carragher.
Salah played a crucial role in Liverpool reaching back-to-back finals in 2018 and 2019, scoring in the latter as Jurgen Klopp’s side defeated Tottenham Hotspur to lift the trophy.
Beyond the three finals, Salah has produced some of Liverpool’s most memorable Champions League moments.
Arsenal – Thierry Henry (77)
Thierry Henry remains Arsenal’s most influential Champions League player in terms of appearances and impact. The legendary striker made 77 European Cup/Champions League appearances for Arsenal, carrying the club through many of their deepest European runs.

His performances were instrumental in Arsenal reaching the 2006 Champions League final. It remains the closest the club has ever come to lifting the trophy.
Henry’s pace and finishing regularly terrorised Europe’s best defences, and he finished as Arsenal’s all-time top scorer in the competition.
