Relegation is the great leveller of English football. No matter how rich, historic, or powerful a club may seem, the Premier League has a ruthless habit of dragging even giants into survival battles.

Over the years, titans have fallen, dynasties have crumbled, and “too big to go down” has proved to be football’s most dangerous myth. Yet amid the chaos, a select few have stood untouched by the drop.

Here are the six Premier League teams that have never been relegated. The true ever-presents of the modern era.

6 – Manchester United

Let’s start with an obvious one, the thirteen time Premier League champions, Manchester United.

As expected, not only have the Red Devils never gone down, they actually won the league more times than any other club.

Up until the 2024/25 season, United’s finishes never even put them in danger of the drop. However, last season, the Red Devils finished 15th, their lowest ever finish since the Premier League began.

In fact, their manager, Ruben Amorim claimed the club were in a relegation battle, as per the Premier League.

But, they survived, and that’s all that matters.

5 – Liverpool

Another ever-present of the Premier League era, and the most successful club in England, Liverpool.

Like United, relegation has never even been a realistic conversation at Anfield in the modern era. In fact, the Reds have spent most of their Premier League life either chasing or winning titles, finally ending their long wait in the 2019/20 season.

While there have been occasional dips and rebuilds along the way, Liverpool have never flirted with the drop in any serious way. Even during their toughest transitional periods, survival was always a given.

4 – Arsenal

Few clubs embody Premier League consistency quite like Arsenal.

The Gunners have never been relegated from the top flight in the Premier League era and, for much of that time, were firmly entrenched among the division’s elite.

Under Arsene Wenger, Arsenal became synonymous with stability, and even delivered the famous Invincibles season.

Although recent years have included rough patches and prolonged rebuilds, Arsenal have never truly been dragged into a relegation scrap.

3 – Chelsea

Another club that has never tasted relegation in the Premier League era is Chelsea.

Since the competition’s inception, the Blues have been a constant presence in the top flight, transforming from top-half regulars into serial title winners following Roman Abramovich’s takeover in 2003.

Even during their more chaotic recent seasons, Chelsea have never found themselves genuinely threatened by relegation. Turbulence, trophies, rebuilds and revolutions? Yes. A brush with the drop? Never.

2 – Tottenham Hotspur

Tottenham Hotspur are another ever-present of the Premier League era.

Spurs have experienced everything under the modern format: top-four battles, title races, Champions League finals and painful near-misses. But one thing they’ve never had to worry about is survival.

Even in their most unstable seasons, Tottenham have always had enough quality, and just enough consistency, to stay comfortably clear of the relegation zone. But, they did make it very hard for themselves in the 2024/25 season, finishing 17th, but in terms of points, they were still 13 clear.

1 – Everton

The closest team that came to getting relegated on this list is Everton. And, unlike the others, they have had more than just one experience a relegation battle.

For what it’s worth, Everton always come up clutch at the end. While clubs around them have dropped, returned, and dropped again, the Toffees have somehow always found a way to survive.

From late-season miracles to nerve-shredding final-day escapes, their status as ever-presents has been hanging by a thread but intact nonetheless.
