Incomings are not expected at Anfield in the January transfer window, despite a number of injuries to key players. But the Merseyside club could potentially see some departures before deadline day.

The Reds currently have four players loaned out but to varying degrees of success. Harvey Elliott’s troubles at Aston Villa are well-documented but another star has endured a tough time on loan.

But with Nottingham Forest showing significant interest in acquiring his services, Liverpool could recall their Carabao Cup hero from 2022.

Kostas Tsimikas deemed surplus to requirements at Roma; Nottingham Forest interested

Kostas Tsimikas left for Roma in the summer window on loan from Liverpool after the Reds signed Milos Kerkez from Bournemouth.

Unfortunately for the Greek star, he has only managed around 600 minutes with the Serie A outfit. Gian Piero Gasperini has not shown a lot of faith in Tsimikas, preferring right-footed Wesley at fullback instead of Kerkez.

As per Il Messaggero, Liverpool and Roma are working on a deal to cancel the loan. The report also states that the 29-year-old won’t be short of suitors when he returns to Anfield with Nottingham Forest keen.

Why Kostas Tsimikas’ Liverpool legacy goes far beyond a failed loan spell

Kostas Tsimikas’ difficult stint away from Anfield does little to erase what has been a quietly successful Liverpool career. Signed from Olympiacos in 2020 for a modest fee, the Greek international was never expected to be a regular starter.

Whenever Andy Robertson was sidelined or rotated, Tsimikas stepped in without Liverpool suffering a dramatic drop in level.

His defining moment came in 2022, when he calmly converted the winning penalty in the Carabao Cup final shootout, sealing silverware and etching his name into Liverpool folklore. While also becoming the first Greek player to lift the Premier League trophy.

For a player brought in to provide depth, Tsimikas more than justified his price tag. And at 29, with top-flight experience and a proven record in pressure moments, it’s no surprise clubs like Nottingham Forest see value where others may now hesitate.
