Manchester United legend Gary Neville targeted in shocking street abuse

Fame brings about plenty of tough moments as many footballers experience on a regular basis. The latest victim has been the ex-Manchester United captain and Sky Sports analyst, Gary Neville.

He found himself at the centre of an ugly incident this week after a video emerged showing him being verbally abused by a member of the public in broad daylight.

The footage has since gone viral. It has racked up millions of views and sparking widespread condemnation as well as support for the Manchester United legend.

A video circulating social media shows Neville approached by an individual who immediately launched into a torrent of abuse. The man questions Neville’s connection to the working class and claims even his own supporters have turned against him.

The clip, captioned as “delightful” by whoever posted it, has since been viewed more than 2.5 million times and received 23,000 likes on the platform.

Former footballer John Hartson was among those to hit back, questioning what the individual thought he was “achieving” by confronting someone in public with their family nearby.

Tracey Neville hits back on the ‘truly scary’ moment

Neville’s sister Tracey, a decorated netball coach and former England captain, was quick to push back on the framing of the incident as something to be celebrated. Responding directly, she said such situations are “truly scary”. She made it clear they are anything but “delightful.”

Gary Neville, the eight time Premier League champion, has yet to publicly respond himself. Although he was back on punditry duties for Sky Sports at the weekend, covering Manchester City’s important victory over Arsenal at the Etihad.

It also emerged he is not the only Sky pundit to have faced abuse recently. His colleague Jamie Carragher was targeted by Everton supporters ahead of Liverpool’s Merseyside derby win. Another incident that drew significant attention.
