Former Premier League player arrested at airport
Last Updated on 2 December 2025
A high-profile former English professional footballer has recently been detained at the Stansted Airport in London.
The individual, mostly known for his Premier League career and international appearances for the Three Lions, was arrested while attempting to leave the country.
He was also in the public eye, recently, according to many witnesses.
Ex-England international and Premier League star arrested on suspicion of sexual assault
The player, who represented the national team in the 2010s, was apprehended by Border Force guards at Stansted Airport on Sunday night.
He attempted to pass through passport control to board a flight but was stopped when details surfaced showing he was wanted. It came in connection with a historical allegation of attempted assault made by a former partner.
The investigation was launched several weeks ago by Essex Police after the ex-partner filed a formal complaint. She alleged that the footballer had attempted to assault her at some point during their relationship.
Officers were alerted to the star’s presence at the airport and immediately traveled to Stansted to make the arrest.
The player’s identity remains unknown. However, a source indicated to The Sun that he has been “quite visible in public recently.”
A witness told the publication that the player was “discreetly pulled aside by Border Force” at passport control due to a clear issue, before being led away by officers.
A growing pattern: high-profile footballers and serious allegations
Most recently, there has been a serious pattern emerging regarding serious allegations on high-profile footballers.
Mason Greenwood and Benjamin Mendy were very public cases, with both getting off after investigations. However, both players managed to get their careers back on track.
Similarly, Thomas Partey was also involved in a similar allegation. Arsenal choose not to renew his contract and Partey left to join Villarreal but faces further investigation.
No doubt the authorities will do their due dilligence in this case, as well.
