As the January window edges closer, one of the Premier League’s most in-demand attackers is rapidly becoming the centre of a multi-club tug of war.

Interest has been building quietly for months from all the top Premier League clubs, but now Chelsea entered the picture and the timing is telling.

With rivals circling and a release clause looming until the 10th of January, this is a deal that could move fast.

Chelsea make late move for Antoine Semenyo as January battle intensifies

Chelsea have emerged as surprise contenders in the race to sign Antoine Semenyo, according to The Athletic. They launched a late push to land the Bournemouth forward ahead of the January transfer window.

The 25-year-old is available for £65 million, and Chelsea are understood to have formally entered discussions on Monday evening.

Manchester United and Manchester City are both keen. While Liverpool previously conducted due diligence and Tottenham Hotspur also registered interest.

Semenyo, born in west London, is understood to have an affiliation with Chelsea. A detail that could prove significant as the market opens next week. His release clause expires on the 10th of January, so this is a transfer that could accelerate quite soon.

Chelsea struggling with wingers despite spending big on young wide forwards

Chelsea’s scattergun approach to transfers intensified during the summer as the Blues brought in three wide forwards. That included the purchases of Jamie Gittens, Alejandro Garnacho and Estevao.

However, the three wingers along with Pedro Neto have scored 7 goals in the Premier League, this season. Bournemouth’s Semenyo, alone, has 8, along with 3 assists to his name.

The Ghanaian offers a level of output that Neto, Gittens and Garnacho have not been able to produce even in the last few campaigns. Meanwhile, Estevao is still young and can play across the front line.

As per The Athletic, Chelsea wanted to sign an attacker in summer 2026 but Semenyo’s availability could see them bring those plans forward in January.
