‘Leaving is never easy’: Mohamed Salah announces bombshell departure from Liverpool

The international break always brings out shock news but rarely are the announcements as major as Mohamed Salah’s blockbuster post on his social media.
The Egyptian superstar has officially announced his decision to leave Liverpool at the end of the 2025/26 campaign.
Mohamed Salah represented the Reds for nine years, joining in 2017 from AS Roma and winning every single trophy with the Anfield club.
Mohamed Salah to bring down the Liverpool curtain on an illustrious career at Anfield
Football is a rapidly moving industry and nine years can be more than an era. Liverpool signed Salah in the summer of 2017, with the winger returning to the Premier League with a point to prove.
Over the course of his stay with the Reds, Salah has racked up all the trophies that a player can wish to win. And, in his bombshell post, the trophy wall behind him was full of the dozens of accolades the Egyptian King collected during his time at Anfield.
“Hello, everyone. Unfortunately the day has come, this is the first part of my farewell. I will be leaving Liverpool at the end of the season,” announced Salah in the video message.
He leaves as a true Liverpool and Premier League legend, having scored or assisted 281 times in 310 league appearances.
“Leaving is never easy. You gave me the best time of my life, I will be always one of you. This club will always be my home to me and to my family. Thank you for everything. Because of all of you, I will never walk alone.”
Salah can still depart Anfield on a high despite a difficult campaign
The Egyptian’s stay at Liverpool was defined by trophies and it would be no surprise if he already has his eyes set on more before leaving.
Salah produced one of the most remarkable carryjobs in the 2024/25 season, coming up with 47 goals and assists, to help Liverpool clinch their 20th league title.
With the Reds still alive in the Champions League and the FA Cup, Salah and Liverpool have a chance to end the campaign on a high. It won’t be easy, however, with the Merseyside club facing Manchester City in the FA Cup quarter-finals and PSG in the Champions League.
Then again, nothing at this high level of football is ever easy. Salah has always defied the odds and it would not surprise anyone if he brings out a fifth gear to change the Champions Wall at Anfield, again.
