Fans fuming as West Ham re-sign player they released months ago
Last Updated on 11 September 2025
West Ham’s turbulent start to life under Graham Potter has taken a turn for the worst.
Following a mass exodus, West Ham spent over £120m but fans haven’t been satisfied with the quality of players brought in.
Supporters are furious with the turmoil at their beloved club. The club hierarchy, from owner David Sullivan to manager, have all come under fire.
Graham Potter’s reign as the manager hasn’t been great. The former Chelsea manager has lost 12 of his 23 games in charge, according to Fotmob.
And now, amidst all the uncertainty, the Premier League club made a huge blunder. They just brought back a player who was let go three months ago.
Lukasz Fabianski returns to West Ham United after being released this summer
In early May, West Ham announced Lukasz Fabianski’s departure, following the end of his contract.
The Polish goalkeeper spent seven years at the club, coming up with some special performances but had fallen down the pecking order in the last coupe of seasons.
West Ham brought in Mads Hermansen from relegated Leicester City as competition for the no.1 spot for Alphonse Areola.
But that didn’t work out as expected with Hermansen conceding eight goals in his first two league matches.
Then, with Aris Limassol sealing a deal for Wes Foderingham, West Ham were left without a third-choice goalkeeper.
And as has been the case for seven years, Fabianski answered West Ham’s SOS, re-joining the club months after being let go.
West Ham fans label their club a joke after Lukasz Fabianski’s return
It’s hardly a knock on the ability of the goalkeeper. Rather, fans are angry with the poor recruitment on show.
A fan called the club ‘a laughing stock’, while another couldn’t digest the fact that Fabianski had filmed his ‘crying goodbye’ only to return in two months time.
Another fan tweeted about how this was a ‘very West Ham thing’ with others providing proof of how the club had done exactly that with Carlton Cole.
