Arsenal star agrees new contract to stay at the Emirates snubbing Real Madrid approach
Last Updated on 25 September 2025
Real Madrid were dealt a massive blow after William Saliba agreed to a new contract at Arsenal.
The Spanish giants were interested in signing William Saliba and rumors suggested the French centerback could run his contract down at Arsenal in favor of a move to Real Madrid.
That has been their modus operandi, getting the likes of Antonio Rudiger and Kylian Mbappe on a free in recent years.
However, Andrea Berta managed to get the deal for Saliba over the line, with minimal fuss.
William Saliba agrees to a 5-year contract at Arsenal
David Ornstein confirmed the news of William Saliba agreeing to extend his contract at Arsenal and called it ‘an extremely important’ deal.
That rings true, especially in recent history. Once Real Madrid single out a player, it’s usually a done deal. So, Berta deserves a lot of credit for convincing Saliba to stay at the Emirates, without turning the news into a saga.
Saliba’s importance at the club is second to none. He’s been a key figure in Arsenal’s rise under Mikel Arteta and the Frenchman is ranked among the best centerbacks in the country.
Real Madrid intensify centerback search with Ibrahima Konate and Marc Guehi on radar
Liverpool’s failure to tie Ibrahima Konate down to a new contract has led to Real Madrid’s interest in the centerback.
Diariogol reported Konate had rejected the latest contract offer from Liverpool. But the Reds’ potential replacement could also be keen on a move to the Bernabeu.
As per the Mirror, Marc Guehi’s number one priority is a move to Real Madrid.

For Liverpool, this complicates things. The Merseyside club saw a move for Guehi collapse in the final few hours on deadline day. They have also lost 18-year-old Giovanni Leoni, to an ACL injury and are very short in that position.
But if Real Madrid step up interest in Guehi, Liverpool have a big problem. They could lose their star defender, Konate, and his replacement both, to the Spanish giants.
