Liverpool and Arsenal’s rivalry isn’t just being played out on the pitch, it’s now spilling into the France national team camp.

With both clubs locked in a fierce Premier League title race, two of their star defenders have already begun the mind games in a moment caught on camera at Clairefontaine.

Ibrahima Konate teases William Saliba as Arsenal take lead in the Premier League race

Liverpool star Ibrahima Konate has cheekily turned up the pressure on Arsenal defender William Saliba. The two French internationals indulged in a bit of light-hearted banter at Clairefontaine.

Ibrahima Konate, when handed a picture of himself holding the Premier League trophy, jibed at Saliba. “Hey Wilo, it’s you, right?”

The Arsenal defender replied, “No, no, it’s you for this year,” before Konate shot back, “It’s for you this year.”

And with the 2025/26 Premier League season promising to be a thrilling title race, both defenders are determined to lead their respective clubs to domestic glory.

Arsenal have made an impressive start to the campaign. They currently sit top of the table with 16 points from seven matches. Mikel Arteta’s dreaming of ending Arsenal’s two-decade wait for a league title.

On the other hand, champions Liverpool have slipped up to a point behind Arsenal after three losses in a week.

Opta: Arsenal favorites to win Premier League title

Liverpool’s week from hell saw them lose all three games, after a strong start to the season. Arne Slot’s men lost two Premier League games, back-to-back, for the first time under the Dutchman.

Crystal Palace inflicted the first loss, with former Arsenal striker Eddie Nketiah scored a stoppage time winner. Then, the Reds lost to Galatasaray in Turkey before losing in stoppage time, again, to an Estevao winner at Stamford Bridge.

As a result, Opta’s supercomputer has put Arsenal as favorites for the title, ahead of Liverpool. It ran 10,000 simulations of the on-going campaign and Arsenal emerge as winners in 41% of them.

The lead for the Gunners might only be a slender one, but they do boast the strongest depth of any team in the league. Arteta’s men have started the season superbly with their only loss of the campaign coming against Liverpool at Anfield.
