Louis Saha reveals what’s ‘holding back’ Liverpool’s blockbuster signing
Last Updated on 28 October 2025
Liverpool spent well over £400m in the summer to sign a wealth of attacking signings, bringing in the likes of Alexander Isak, Florian Wirtz, and Hugo Ekitike.
However, after five losses in their last six games in all competitions, the pressure is ramping up on new signings for not delivering.
And now, ex-Manchester United striker, Louis Saha has had his say on why one of Liverpool’s many transfers is not working out.
Louis Saha believes Liverpool striker Alexander Isak is short on confidence
The Reds swooped for Isak on deadline day after his stunning season at Newcastle, where he scored 27 goals, including the decisive strike in the Carabao Cup final win over Liverpool.
His performances earned him a place in the PFA Team of the Year, and many saw him as the natural heir to Mohamed Salah’s goalscoring mantle.
Since making the switch to Anfield, though, Isak has struggled to make a similar impact. Louis Saha, who knows the Premier League grind all too well, believes Isak’s struggles come down to confidence, and overthinking his play.
“You can see that there is something holding Alexander Isak back,” Saha told BetVictor, via The Mirror. “Whatever it is, he’s taking a split second to think about things, whereas at Newcastle, everything was very natural. That’s why he was unpredictable. He could strike from anywhere.”
Despite that, Saha has faith in Isak to recapture his best form and become a potent weapon for Liverpool.

“It’s just about regaining confidence, especially with Liverpool struggling a bit. I’m sure Isak will be part of that success once it clicks.”
Alexander Isak’s slow start to life at Anfield
Liverpool’s new no.9 has made 7 appearances in all competitions but only has one goal to his name since his record-breaking transfer.
Goals have also dried up for Isak on international duty as he struggles with some fitness concerns after not having a proper preseason due to his transfer saga.
To make matters tough for the Swede, Isak is directly in competition with another big money signing, Hugo Ekitike. The Frenchman has made the perfect start to life at Liverpool, already scoring six times for his new club.

But top players, more often than not, cherish such competition and if Arne Slot can find a way to play Isak with Ekitike, it could solve Liverpool’s recent troubles, as well.
