FA asked to investigate Lucas Paqueta after ‘suspicious’ red card vs Liverpool
Last Updated on 1 December 2025
West Ham United lost to an out-of-form Liverpool at the London Stadium after conceding two goals in second half from Alexander Isak and Cody Gakpo.
However, the story of the game was not the fact that Liverpool got their first points on the road in the Premier League since 14th September.
It was an incident involving West Ham’s Lucas Paqueta in the 84th minute, when the Brazilian got two yellow cards for dissent in less than two minutes.
Fans call on FA to investigate Lucas Paqueta after SHOCKING red card
Given the game state, it was an extremely careless thing from the Paqueta, who cost his team the chance to potentially equalize.
Even Nuno Espirito Santo was bemused by his player’s reaction. “It’s hard to play with one man less against Liverpool. I want to speak to him first and try to understand. It’s unfair to make a comment without speaking to him.”
Meanwhile fans on social media were quick to claim that it was something far more sinister.
Other believe that it’s something of a pattern, at this point, given Paqueta’s betting history.
Many fans noticed how Paqueta’s facial expressions changed right after he received the red card.
Others saw the funny side of the incident.
Ultimately though, much like Nuno, most fans on X could not wrap their head around what the Brazilian did.
West Ham fans were furious, as expected, with plenty calling for the club to sell the Brazilian for becoming a ‘liability’.
Another West Ham fan believes it’s all a ploy from Paqueta to get a move away from the London Stadium.
Lucas Paqueta’s previous betting investigation putting him in hot waters again
Despite being cleared in August after an FA investigation took place around his betting history, Lucas Paqueta’s red card has caused more controversy.
It was based on the allegation that Paqueta ‘intentionally sought’ a card from the referee. The investigation lasted nearly two years and the Brazilian was finally cleared in August 2025.
But after his puzzling red card against Liverpool on 30th November, Paqueta finds himself under scrutiny, once again.
The 28-year-old posted on his X account, blasting the FA for a ‘lack of support’.
“It’s ridiculous to have your life and career affected for two years without any psychological support from the federation. Perhaps this ridiculous behaviour is just a refllection of everything I’ve had to endure and, it seems, have to continue enduring! I’m sorry I’m not perfect.”
