Crystal Palace captain Marc Guehi was inches away from sealing a dream move to Liverpool in the final hours of the summer transfer window.

However, an alleged yoga session for Steve Parish and rumoured tantrum from Oliver Glasner saw Marc Guehi stay put.

All this happened despite the centerback being given the green light for a medical with Liverpool.

Bayern Munich move first as Marc Guehi attracts interest from all over Europe

According to Sky Sport Germany’s Florian Plettenberg, Bayern Munich have taken the first concrete steps toward signing the 25-year-old defender.

Senior sporting executive Max Eberl is reportedly a “big admirer” of Guehi. In fact, as per reports, he has already initiated early-stage talks with the player’s representatives.

The move would make sense for Bayern, whose current defensive setup faces uncertainty over the futures of Dayot Upamecano and Kim Min-jae.

Eberl’s admiration for Guehi’s composure, positional intelligence, and leadership has accelerated their internal discussions, with a potential pre-contract deal in January now firmly on the table.

Meanwhile, Liverpool’s gamble of waiting until the last day for Guehi in the summer of 2025 could cost them big time.

They desperately need a centerback with Giovanni Leoni out for the majority of the season. But Bayern’s interest in Guehi actually comes after Real Madrid also registered their admiration for the 25-year-old.

This makes the situation very tricky for Liverpool and could lead to a bidding war for Guehi in January.

Marc Guehi’s fantastic form central to Crystal Palace’s superb start to the 2025/26 season

Crystal Palace became the last team to lose a Premier League match in the 2025/26 season when Jack Grealish scored in stoppage time on Sunday.

Despite the loss, only leaders Arsenal have conceded fewer goals than Palace, this season. Marc Guehi’s leadership and defensive excellence at the back has seen the South London club get off to an excellent start.

He has also contributed on the other end, getting on the scoresheet and assisting a goal, too. With every passing day, it seems like Glasner’s decision to stand firm and keep Guehi at the club was a superb one for the club.
