Manchester United host lowly Wolverhampton Wanderers at Old Trafford on Tuesday night as their final game of the calendar year. Nothing less than a win would do for the Red Devils considering their opponents have two points in 18 Premier League games.

For Ruben Amorim, this is a fantastic chance to put a run together after United scraped past Newcastle United on Boxing Day.

That said, Wolves caused some issues for defending champions, Liverpool, at Anfield on Saturday. If they get an early goal, Old Trafford could become a cauldron of nerves. And team news ahead of this one are not too promising for Manchester United.

Ruben Amorim has no plans of playing Bruno Fernandes against Wolves

Speaking in his press conference ahead of the Wolves game, Amorim gave an injury update on Bruno Fernandes.

The Portuguese manager confirmed there is “no chance” that his counterpart plays against Wolves.

As expected, Bruno is itching to get back on the pitch but Amorim does not want to rush his captain back into action.

A more likely return for Bruno could be on the bench against Leeds United on the 4th of January. This comes as good news for Wolves, who need some luck going their way after what has been a horrid campaign.

Ruben Amorim admits “media noise” played into his stubbornness to stick with system

In his pre-match press conference before Wolves, Amorim addressed questions over United’s new shape, as per BBC.

The Red Devils played with a back-four against Newcastle. This comes after Amorim famously admitted that even the Pope could not get him to change his system.

However, the 40-year-old has admitted it would have been the “end of him” if he caved in to media pressure.

“When you [media] talk about changing the system all the time, I cannot change because the players will understand I’m changing because of you and I think that is the end for the manager.”
