The Reds suffered their fourth consecutive defeat in the Premier League setting off alarm bells for the champions.

Liverpool hit a new low at the Gtech Stadium succumbing to a 3-2 defeat in London to Brentford.

That loss invited a whole host of criticism from pundits and fans with supporters, in particular, seeking answers.

Federico Chiesa explains the dressing room situation after loss at Brentford

Liverpool’s Italian winger, Federico Chiesa, has not been a regular since making the switch from Juventus in 2024.

However, he has contributed quite a few times already this season, coming off the bench with valuable goals and assists, but could not do much in Liverpool’s most recent loss.

Speaking to the Independent, Chiesa revealed that Liverpool’s dressing room after Brentford defeat was ‘silent’. “No one was speaking, because afterwards everyone knows. Sometimes you don’t have to speak about the situation. You know what’s going on. So no one spoke because I think we have to think about what we can do better.”

For Chiesa, that silence was more about hope rather than shock.

“I think it was good that after the game we didn’t talk because it’s a sign that everyone wants to change. Everyone wants to change the situation.”

And now, the Euro 2020 champion has issued a rallying cry ahead of Liverpool’s mid-week Carabao Cup clash against Crystal Palace.

“I don’t know if you say this in English, but [in Italy] we say, ‘winning, brings winning’,” said Chiesa. “So we want to win tomorrow. We have the quality and the players to do so and we have a fantastic manager so I don’t see any trouble. I hope we’re going to bounce back and that’s the way I see it.”

Arne Slot must reward players on merit to get out of ‘rut’

Liverpool five wins to start the Premier League campaign have been followed by four consecutive losses.

According to Arne Slot, the problem is how direct teams play against his side but for most others, the Dutchman is also not being fair to his squad.

Hugo Ekitike, for instance, has been Liverpool’s most in-form attacker this season. Despite being so lethal in front of goal, he has seen fewer starts with Slot favouring Alexander Isak, who has struggled for his new club.

Similarly, Federico Chiesa’s superb form and inspired performances off the bench have not been rewarded. The Italian has two goals and an assist in the league, which includes a big winner against Bournemouth but he is yet to start a game in the Premier League.

In fact, despite impressing, Chiesa was initially left out of Liverpool’s Champions League squad before being added after an injury to fellow Italian, Giovanni Leoni.

It seems likely that Chiesa will start against Crystal Palace on Wednesday, but he will also hope to force himself into Slot’s plans in the Premier League and the Champions League.

“I want to play good,” Chiesa explained. “That’s my main goal. Then the coach is going to decide whether I’m starting or not. But if I keep on playing well, then, of course, I’m going to have more minutes.”
