Liverpool’s unbeaten run came to a shocking end as Crystal Palace secured a thrilling 2-1 victory at Selhurst Park.

Ismaïla Sarr gave Crystal Palace a first-half lead from a set-piece, with Alisson Becker making key saves to keep the Reds in the game.

Substitute Federico Chiesa equalised late on, raising hopes of yet another late Liverpool winner.

But in the 97th minute, Eddie Nketiah smashed home from a long throw to hand Arne Slot’s side their first defeat of the season and send Selhurst Park into chaos.

Marc Guehi’s surprise reaction to Ismaïla Sarr’s goal

Marc Guehi was a major talking point during the summer transfer window. Guehi was all set to join Liverpool on deadline day before Crystal Palace blocked his move in the very last minute.

Which is why all eyes were on Guehi going into the game. And when Sarr gave Crystal Palace the lead, The Athletic’s Gregg Evans revealed how Guehi reacted to the goal.

Reporting the match on X, Evans posted: “Interesting reaction from Guehi after #CPFC scored. As the rest of his team-mates ran over to celebrate with the goalscorer, Sarr, he dropped his head and walked off alone.”

Despite his subdued celebration, Guehi still proved decisive. Deep into stoppage time, his flicked header from a long throw found Eddie Nketiah, who smashed home the winner in the 97th minute to stun Liverpool.

Liverpool could return for Marc Guehi in January

The Reds could return for Guehi in January, specially after the unfortunate injury to Giovanni Leoni on his club debut.

The young Italian impressed during the League Cup win vs Southampton, but had a tragic end to the game as he tore his ACL and is now expected to be out for several months.

The injury could force Liverpool’s hand to dip into the market as they are very thin in the centre-back department.
