Andre Onana’s Manchester United career appears to be over, but not before leaving behind a trail of unforgettable blunders.

The 29-year-old has agreed a loan move to Trabzonspor, where, as per Daily Mail, he will be earning double his current salary. There is no obligation to buy nor will Man United get any loan fee for him.

The deal is expected to be finalised this week, with the player likely to travel to Turkey on Thursday.

The Cameroonian’s Old Trafford spell will be remembered more for his mistakes than saves. Join us as we take you through the worst of them.

5. Andre Onana vs Galatasaray (Oct 2023)

After being Inter Milan’s best player in their UCL final only a few months prior to this game, Onana was a car crash for Manchester United throughout their Champions League campaign.

This mistake from Onana resulted in a loss to Galatasaray at Old Trafford. All because Onana’s poor pass went straight to Dries Mertens. Casemiro, the closest defender had no choice but to take one for the team. The Brazilian brought down Mertens for a clear sending off.

United never recovered, succumbing to a 3-2 loss, which sealed their fate after a string of blunders from Onana throughout their campaign.

4. Andre Onana vs Bayern Munich (Sept 2023)

A month before his poor performance against Galatasaray, Onana had already shown his full range of blunders against Bayern in his first European appearance for United.

All it took was a central shot from Leroy Sane. It was hit with power but not so much that a professional goalkeeper would struggle. Onana jumped over it and the ball dribbled through his hands and into the empty net.

Fun fact: Manchester United won one game in their 2023/24 Champions League group stage campaign, despite scoring 12 goals. Two of those games ended with a 4-3 scoreline to Bayern Munich and Copenhagen.

3. Andre Onana v Grimsby Town (Aug 2025)

Quite possibly the final nail in the coffin, Onana’s entire performance against League 2 opposition, Grimsby Town was a painful watch.

The Cameroonian’s poor decision to come out and punch a ball instead of catching it led to Grimsby doubling their lead. But his misery didn’t end there.

United came back from behind to force a penalty shootout. One that would end Onana’s career at Old Trafford, after he came under from Louis Saha, too, as reported by the Daily Mail.

Why? Well, when you’re up against League Two opposition, and you only save a single penalty out of twelve – something’s definitely wrong.

2. Andre Onana v Nottingham Forest (Aug 2023)

This might be the worst moment of Onana’s career. It does only happen because of some poor defending, and had he simply dived the wrong or right way, Onana probably wouldn’t have come under so much criticism.

But what he proceeds to do is a lot worse. With Taiwo Awoniyi clear on goal, Onana falls on his backside as he retreats. That gives the Forest striker a clear finish on goal and puts the 20-time Premier League champions two-nil behind.

1. Andre Onana v Tottenham Hotspur (May 2025)

The loss to Tottenham Hotspur in the Europa League final is up there as a sliding doors moment for Manchester United and possibly Onana, too.

It finished only 1-0 to Spurs, but the decisive goal came at the expense of some extremely poor goalkeeping from Onana. For what it’s worth, the shot was from close range but the ball was moving at a snail’s speed. Yet it was behind the Cameroonian by the time he got a hand to it, slamming it against the sidenetting.

Maybe away from the spotlight, Onana can recover his reputation. The bright lights at Old Trafford certainly aren’t for everyone.
