Ex-Nottingham Forest player close to being appointed as Ange Postecoglou’s successor
Last Updated on 20 October 2025
Ange Postecoglou was let go by Nottingham Forest, shortly after Chelsea’s 3-0 win at the City Ground.
The decision was taken directly by Nottingham Forest owner, Evangelos Marinakis, who sakced Postecoglou only 39 days after hiring him.
With Roberto Mancini among the names expected to be in contention for the job, Ange’s replacement should be annouced soon.
Sean Dyche close to agreement with Nottingham Forest over vacant manager position
According to the reliable David Ornstein, Sean Dyche has verbally agreed to become Nottingham Forest’s next manager. This comes less than 7 weeks after Ange Postecoglou officially took over from Nuno Espirito Santo.
Negotiations were reported to have accelerated late on Sunday night, with both parties keen to complete a deal in time for upcoming fixtures. Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis believes Dyche is right person to steady the ship clearing the team of relegation danger.
The former Everton manager will become the third manager to take charge of Forest this season, a feat most recently achieved by the likes of Aston Villa and Swansea City in 2015/16 and 2016/17 respectively, as per SI.
Dyche will bring a ‘no-nonsense’ approach with larger focus on stability, suiting the current crop of players at Nottingham Forest.
Given their PSR trouble, this only puts the club in a tougher position. Forest is currently paying out Santo and have, now, added Postecoglou to the billing, as well.
Ange Postecoglou was doomed to fail at the City Ground
It may have been a hasty decision to sack him but Postecoglou’s appointment never made sense in the first place.

Forest were one of the best defensive units in the league during the 2024/25 campaign. Their whole philosophy was built by Santo on the premise of strong defensive leadership.

Meanwhile, Postecoglou’s system has come under criticism for being ‘too open’ during his time at Spurs. To make matters worse, Marinakis was hoping for quick results and that is basically asking for a miracle with such contrasting ideas.
For what it’s worth, in Sean Dyche, Marinakis has a reliable manager with a proven track record of putting out fires.
