Thomas Partey has been charged with two further serious sexual assault counts, the Crown Prosecution Service has confirmed.

The former Arsenal midfielder, 32, is already due to stand trial in November after previously denying multiple allegations made against him.

He will appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on Friday, 13 March, in relation to the new charges.

Crown Prosecution Services authorises further charges against Thomas Partey

The Crown Prosecution Service has authorised two additional counts against Thomas Partey, adding to the case that is scheduled to be heard later this year.

According to The Telegraph, Partey previously entered not guilty pleas to five counts of alleged sexual offences and one count of alleged sexual assault. This took place during a court appearance at Southwark Crown Court in September last year.

The alleged offences are said to have taken place between 2021 and 2022, during a period when Partey was a regular first-team player in the Premier League with Arsenal. He was originally charged shortly after leaving the north London club at the expiry of his contract.

In fact, he also made an appearance against Tottenham for Villarreal in the Europa League, this season.

Partey, who is currently on bail, is set to face trial on 2 November. He currently plays for La Liga side Villarreal. The conditions do not prevent him from continuing his professional football career and Partey denies all allegations against him.

How Thomas Partey’s case continues to cast a shadow over Arsenal

Although Thomas Partey is no longer at the club, the case inevitably continues to be associated with Arsenal. This is because of the timing of the alleged offences and his status as a first-team regular during that period.

Partey left the Emirates following the expiry of his contract, just days before he was first charged. Throughout the earlier stages of the investigation and subsequent legal process, Arsenal declined to comment publicly on the specifics of the case, citing its ongoing nature.

A lot of fans spoke out about Mikel Arteta’s continuous defence of Partey in press conferences. In fact, Partey was in line to land a new contract at Arsenal. Many believe this kind of sportswashing deserves more criticism as clubs continue to hide behind legalities.
