Being underrated doesn’t always mean being unknown, sometimes it means your own supporters overlook what you truly bring to the team.

Whether it’s tactical misunderstanding, injuries, inconsistency narratives, or simply being overshadowed by bigger names, these five Premier League players deserve far more appreciation from their fanbases in 2025.

5 – Dejan Kulusevski – Tottenham Hotspur

Kulusevski is the definition of understated brilliance.

He’s had his fair share of performances when the Swede has looked unplayable. However, he does not deliver consistent output in terms of goals and assists.

Having been injured since Thomas Frank came in, fans have almost forgotten what a bright talent they have on their books.

He carries the ball relentlessly, presses intelligently, and links midfield to attack better than anyone in the squad. His ability to operate as a winger, No. 10, or even an auxiliary midfielder makes him tactically priceless for Frank’s system.

4 – Gabriel Martinelli – Arsenal

Despite kicking off his career at Arsenal with a bang, Martinelli has somewhat faded away in the last couple of seasons.

With plenty of other attacking signings coming in to challenge him for a spot, Martinelli’s had to step up. But Martinelli’s explosiveness, pressing aggression, and goal threat remain crucial, he stretches defences in a way few Premier League wingers can.

As a result of these new names coming in, though, Arsenal fans tend to overlook Martinelli’s qualities. Fact remains, he’s one of the rarest profiles in world football and you can’t really keep a player of his quality quiet for long.

3 – Curtis Jones – Liverpool

Curtis Jones is one of Liverpool’s most misunderstood footballers.

In 2025, he has evolved into a hybrid midfielder: press-resistant, tactically disciplined, and excellent at retaining the ball under pressure.

Yet some Liverpool fans still judge him over his late releases.

Jones thrives in the small details, tempo control, intelligent positioning, progressive carrying, the things that make Slot’s system function. When he plays, Liverpool look cleaner and calmer.
Still, he rarely gets the credit he deserves.

2 – Amad Diallo – Manchester United

For many United fans, Amad feels like a “maybe player.” But in reality, the last year has shown he’s one of the smartest attackers at the club.

His dribbling, movement inside the half-spaces, and combination play give United something few others do: unpredictability with control.

Unfortunately, Amad’s never been given an extended run of starts. That contributes to fans underrating his ceiling. Arrival of Bryan Mbeumo also complicated things, as per The Athletic.

But he comes up with crucial moments every now and then. For example his contributions in the FA Cup run have shown he is a big-game player with elite football IQ.

Amad is better than the discourse suggests. All he needs is a bit of trust and plenty of minutes.

1 – Marc Cucurella – Chelsea

Cucurella’s first-year price tag haunted him, and many Chelsea fans still judge him through that lens.

But in 2025, he has quietly become one of Chelsea’s most reliable performers. Energetic, tactically adaptable, and excellent in defensive duels.

He’s been asked to play full-back, wing-back, inverted full-back, even emergency centre-back, and rarely lets the team down.

Inside the fanbase, Cucurella remains underappreciated mainly because the narrative from 2022 stuck longer than the truth.
