Alexander Isak made his first appearance of the 2025/26 season, coming on as a substitute against Kosovo in Sweden’s shock 2-0 loss.

For someone with no match fitness, Isak looked rather sharp in his 20-minute cameo for Sweden. He took four shots, with three on target and was unlucky not to score.

Isak was an unused substitute in Sweden’s 2-2 draw against Slovenia earlier in September. But he finally got a few minutes under his belt, for the first time this season.

He also fulfilled his media duties after the game, breaking silence on his £125m switch from Newcastle United to Liverpool.

Alexander Isak responds to Newcastle criticsm following record Liverpool move

Liverpool paid a British transfer record to sign Isak on Deadline Day but the transfer saga spanned the entire summer window. The Swedish striker had refused to go on the pre-season tour with the Newcastle squad and started training on his own.

Liverpool made a bid in the region of £110m, which was immediately rejected by the Saudi-owned club. Isak went on strike, leaving Newcastle to train with his former club, Real Sociedad, in Spain.

This brought about a lot of criticism for the Swedish striker from ex-players and analysts.

Eventually, with less than 24 hours to go, Isak finally got his move to Liverpool. In the aftermath of the confirmation, Newcastle journalists revealed details behind Isak’s exit.

Bridges had been burnt beyond repair between the player and the club, as covered by The Telegraph.

Speaking to journalists, and as reported by Reuters, Isak explained, “It’s clear that not everyone has the whole picture, but that’s something for another day.”

Further adding how he was ‘glad’ to be a Liverpool player and that the transfer saga was now a ‘closed chapter’.

Liverpool will hope Alexander Isak can hit the ground running at Anfield

Despite being handed a tough fixture list to start the season, Liverpool won all three Premier League games before the international break.

The first game of the season against Bournemouth was won late thanks to Federico Chiesa and Mohamed Salah.

Newcastle also fell to a late winner from Rio Ngumoha who scored to make it 3-2 in the 100th minute.

While Arsenal were handed their first loss of the season after Dominik Szoboszlai scored a brilliant freekick.

With 9 points from 9, the champions will hope to continue their form after the international break. They have 7 matches coming up in 21 days and will need all the help they can get.

Especially now with the addition of another attacker, Liverpool will feel they can hit another level.

Even though Alexander Isak is not expected to start against Burnley on the 14th of September, his signing gives a much-needed boost in terms of performances to Liverpool. But with games coming thick and fast, Arne Slot will hope his £125m man can get up to speed ASAP.
