Minutes after Chelsea dropped out of the race for Antoine Semenyo and the 25-year-old politely declined a move to Tottenham Hotspur, a new favorite has been confirmed.

The Manchester clubs were considered the favorites for the Ghanaian international ahead of a move for January.

But now, the race seems to be edging towards the finish line.

Antoine Semenyo’s preference is Manchester City

According to The Athletic, Manchester City is confirmed as Antoine Semenyo’s preference ahead of a January move.

This comes as a major blow to local rivals Manchester United and Chelsea. They were both weighing up moves for the 25-year-old.

Nothing formal has been agreed yet. Manchester City would have to meet Bournemouth’s £65 million release clause for Semenyo. The Ghanaian is fully convinced by Pep Guardiola’s project and has rejected a lucrative contract offer from Tottenham.

On the other hand, Manchester United were ready to break the bank and improve their attacking depth. However, they will have to look at other options in January.

Manchester City set to replenish squad as title race with Arsenal heats up

Erling Haaland has been single-handedly leading the title charge for Manchester City cutting the lead down to two points with Arsenal with the Norwegian scoring 19 goals already.

The problem has been the little support for Haaland in attack from other quarters of the squad.

Antoine Semenyo’s arrival could easily change that. The 25-year-old has been in fine form scoring 8 times with three assists and could flourish big time under Pep Guardiola in the second-half of the campaign.

Fine margins usually tend to decide title races and a factor like Semenyo could be more than just a “fine margin”. He adds considerable depth to Manchester City’s attacking depth and a partnership with Jeremy Doku could be a very frightening prospect for the league.
