A £270,000 Lamborghini Urus was left wrecked on a Dutch motorway after a violent late-night collision involving four vehicles. But its driver, a former Southampton winger, walked away without serious injury.
Former Premier League player Eljero Elia has escaped a horrifying crash that could easily have ended in tragedy.
The 38-year-old was behind the wheel of his luxury Lamborghini when it reportedly collided with three other cars on the A4 motorway near Leiden, Netherlands, on Saturday night.

In the aftermath of the collision, Elia spoke to Omroep West, recalling the frightening moments leading up to the crash.
The former Dutch winger said he had been driving along a normally quiet stretch of the A4 when traffic ahead suddenly came to a halt.
“Suddenly, I saw the traffic in front of me brake and come to a standstill.” Elia explained. “I tried to brake, but I skidded.”

Authorities confirmed two drivers were taken to the police station for questioning. Elia himself was also escorted in for further inquiries.
No one was seriously injured, despite significant damage to Elia’s Lamborghini. A relief that could easily have been a very different story given the severity of the impact.
Eljero Elia’s career roadmap includes a Premier League stint and titles in three different countries
Eljero Elia enjoyed a decent career both internationally and at club level. One that includes a World Cup final appearance in the 2010 World Cup for Netherlands.
Elia started his club journey in the Eredivisie, spending a few years at ADO Den Haag and FC Twente.
Then a couple of short stints at Hamburger SV and Juventus saw him seal a move to Werder Bremen.

In the 2014-15 season, Elia joined Southampton on loan and impressed during his time at St. Mary’s.
Despite a willingness from both player and club to make the deal permanent, the fee was deemed too high and Elia was sold to Feyenoord.
Over the course of his glittering career, Elia was part of three title winning sides. He won the 2012-13 Serie A champions with Juventus, the Eredivisie with Feyenoord in 2017 and the 2019-2020 Super Lig with Istanbul Basaksehir.
