The Reds splashed well over £400m in the summer on a number of high-profile recruitments and they are already planning their next move in the window.

Liverpool were strongly linked with a move for Marc Guehi in the summer of 2025. They came close to completing a deal on deadline day, with a move failing to materialize in the last hours of the window.

‘Very concrete in their interest’ Liverpool want Marc Guehi on a free

Liverpool are holding ongoing talks to secure Guéhi on a free transfer next summer, as per Florian Plettenberg.

The Merseyside club view the Palace captain as a perfect long-term addition to their backline and are described as “very concrete” in their pursuit.

But they also face stiff competition from other top sides in Europe. This includes interest from Bayern Munich in Guehi, as well as pursuit from Spanish giants, Real Madrid and Barcelona.

From January, Guehi will be free to speak with foreign clubs. This allows him to sign a pre-contract agreement with only six months left on his contract. Given sthe strong interest from elsewhere, Liverpool are in constant contact to convince the 24-year-old to move to Anfield.

Another injury could force Liverpool’s hand in January for Marc Guehi

Liverpool signed Giovanni Leoni from Parma in the summer but the youngster suffered an ACL injury on debut. The teenager is set to be out for the majority of the current season.

On the other hand, Ibrahima Konate’s future is up in the air, too, with Real Madrid observing his contract talks with a lot of interest.

The Frenchman’s also gotten off to a shaky start to the 2025/26 season and Arne Slot is not entirely convinced with Joe Gomez at centerback.

That leaves Virgil van Dijk as the only reliable option. If Liverpool’s defenders were to suffer another injury, it could force them to table a bid for Marc Guehi.

As per The Times, The Reds are adamant not to overpay for a player available on a free next summer. However, if the defense does not tighten up and in light of injuries, they might not have a choice.
