The Reds have lost four games on the trot after spending a record amount on transfers in the summer before.

Liverpool’s troubles on the pitch could be exacerbated with off-pitch rumours, as Real Madrid register interest in their star player.

After reported interest in Ibrahima Konate, Xabi Alonso is keen to bring another Liverpool star to the Bernabeu.

Real Madrid want Alexis Mac Allister, could make move as soon as January for the World Cup winner

The latest rumours are fuelled by the reliable IndyKaila, who broke the story about Real Madrid’s interest on Tuesday.

As per the report, Liverpool are also willing to entertain a sale as long as their valuation for the Argentine is met.

This does not come as much surprise as most big-name stars from South America view Barcelona and Real Madrid as a possible destination.

Given Mac Allister’s recent form, Liverpool might feel like moving the midfielder on is a good idea. But form is temporary, and the Anfield crowd has seen what Mac Allister is capable of. He was one of their best players during the 2024/25 Premier League triumph.

But a bid from Real Madrid could change everything and a move is possible in January.

Liverpool eyeing up move for defensive midfielder

Another reason for Liverpool considering a possible sale for Mac Allister is their midfield balance.

As good a player as the Argentine superstar is, he does not quite fit into Arne Slot’s midfield pivot.

That is one of the reasons why Slot wanted to sign Martin Zubimendi in 2024, and why there were reports of Liverpool’s interest in Crystal Palace’s Adam Wharton.

And, now, with IndyKaila confirming Liverpool’s interest in bringing in an ‘elite’ defensive midfielder, they could revisit interest in Adam Wharton.

While, Ryan Gravenberch did an excellent job as the six for Liverpool, during the 2024/25 campaign, most analysts will tell you that Gravenberch is more of an eight than a six. In fact, he could be even better with a deep-lying midfielder next to him.
