Ruben Amorim has been under a lot of pressure at Manchester United after making a poor start to the 2025/26 season.

Wayne Rooney revealed he had no faith in the Portuguese manager as the clock ticks down on Amorim’s time at Old Trafford.

And now, a long-term managerial target for Manchester United has come out and revealed his future plan.

Manchester United target, Zinedine Zidane, reveals he will ‘definitely return’ to management

Zinedine Zidane, the legendary French midfielder, has been out of a management role for four years.

Since retiring from the sport as a player, the 53-year-old has gone on to manage Real Madrid on two different occasions. During his first stint as the boss at the Bernabeu, Los Blancos did the threepeat in the Champions League.

Then, upon his return to management in 2019, Zidane won the La Liga with Real Madrid, before stepping down after a trophyless 2020/21 campaign.

Four years on, the Frenchman has not managed another team. As per his latest comments, he’s very keen to manage the French national side, biding his time.

Speaking at the Festival dello Sport in Italy, Zidane also quashed rumours of never managing again, according to The Sun.

“I will definitely return,” said Zidane. “In terms of the future, I don’t know. My feeling is that I want to be able to coach the national team in the future, even though I don’t mean right now. I would like to one day, but we’ll see.”

This does not fill the Old Trafford faithful with a lot of confidence as the ex-midfield maestro clearly has eyes only for the France coaching job.

However, that will hardly give Ruben Amorim any breathing space with pressure constantly mounting for the 40-year-old.

Sir Jim Ratcliffe facing difficult decision as Crystal Palace open contract talks with Oliver Glasner

In the last few weeks, following Crystal Palace’s contrasting start to the season, Oliver Glasner has emerged as the favorite to replace Ruben Amorim.

But it might not be as straightforward as simply firing Amorim and getting Glasner in, as far as INEOS are concerned.

Steve Parish, Crystal Palace’s chairman, has confirmed that the club opened talks with the German manager over a new contract.

“Yeah, we’ve had some early conversations. I mean we would love to keep Oliver, we’re building something. I think for Oliver it’s about the conditions being right.”

Parish added, “Oliver wants to win things. He makes no secret of that. That’s what he’s in football for. He’s in football for those days where we give all that pleasure to the fans and we do as well. So if we can align those interests, then hopefully we can make something happen.”

This only makes the situation more complicated for Ratcliffe as he risks losing his number one target. As a result, United’s next few games become even more important as they travel to Anfield before hosting boogeyteam, Brighton at Old Trafford.
