Mohamed Salah, the Liverpool legend who re-writes history game after game
Last Updated on 5 November 2025
Liverpool’s Egyptian King has been making and breaking records from his first season at Anfield.
After a quiet start to the 2025/26 season, Mohamed Salah got Liverpool back to winning ways with a goal against Aston Villa.
But that right-footed finish was more than just a goal. When the ball touched the net, Salah tied Wayne Rooney for the most goal involvements – 276 – for a single Premier League club.
‘One season wonder’ Mohamed Salah on the brink of making history…again
When Salah completed his move to Liverpool in the summer of 2017, a lot of people had doubts over the Egyptian.

Even after he broke the record for most goals in a single Premier League season, in his debut campaign, many branded him as a ‘one season wonder’.
Eight years on and Salah has continued on his merry way. He has been breaking record after record, but still gets criticized heavily after every lean patch.
Fortunately for Liverpool, their superstar has a very thick skin and he does his talking on the pitch.
Only last season, Salah’s superb form in front of goal helped Liverpool to their 20th title as he became the only player in the league’s history to record 47 goal involvements in a single season.
And, he has already added more to his tally. His latest goal helped him equal Wayne Rooney’s record of 276 goal involvements, most by a player for a single club. The next goal or assist from will put him clear of Rooney and any other player in Premier League history.
But that’s not the only record he’s close to breaking. His goal against Aston Villa was his 190th in the Premier League, putting him in fourth place behind Alan Shearer, Harry Kane and Wayne Rooney.
| Player | Premier League goals |
| Alan Shearer | 260 |
| Harry Kane | 213 |
| Wayne Rooney | 208 |
| Mohamed Salah | 190 |
The Egyptian King signed a two-year contract with Liverpool in 2025, guaranteeing at least one more season after the current one at Anfield. If he keeps up his goalscoring form, Salah could comfortably go past Wayne Rooney and Harry Kane, as he needs only 24 more goals to do so.
Shearer’s 260 remains a little bit out of reach. But if Salah can produce a stellar campaign like 2024/25, another contract extension won’t be out of the question.
Mohamed Salah’s resurgence KEY to Liverpool’s success this season
It’s hardly a coincidence that Liverpool’s dip this season coincided with Salah being out of form. After all, it was Salah who singlehandedly carried the attack as Liverpool won their 20th league title, last season.
Now with two wins from two, and Salah being a lot more involved, Arne Slot will put his faith in the 33-year-old, once again.
Liverpool have been guilty of planning for life after Mo Salah, having spent over £400m on new players in 2025. However, the last couple of games have given them a tremendous reality check.
For all their shiny new toys, it’s Mohamed Salah, who makes the club tick. There were concerns over how age might be catching up with the Egyptian, but once again, Salah is proving his doubters wrong.
And if Liverpool are to get their season back on track and win big…they are going to rely heavily on their legendary winger.
