Liverpool will play Inter Milan at the San Siro on Tuesday in the Champions League with a win very much the need of the hour for Arne Slot.

The Reds have 9 points from their first five Champions League fixtures and a loss against Inter could put their chances of automatic qualification in danger.

Recent results have not been promising either with Liverpool surrendering a lead twice against relegation-threatened Leeds United on Saturday.

Mohamed Salah ‘unlikely’ to travel with Liverpool squad to San Siro following his comments

There is a good chance that Liverpool’s record goal-scorer in Europe, Mohamed Salah, will not be part of the squad that travels to Italy.

This comes after Salah’s massive claim that the club had ‘thrown him under the bus’ after recent results.

According to David Ornstein’s in The Athletic, Arne Slot is unlikely to call upon Salah’s services for the must-win game against Inter. It is not seen as a ‘punishment’ and more of a club decision to back Arne Slot.

Ornstein also mentioned how Liverpool want the situation to change and would like to keep Salah for the remainder of his two-year contract.

Arne Slot facing tough test at the San Siro following injury concerns

Arne Slot has been dealt another blow in his team selection ahead of their Champions League fixture.

Federico Chiesa and Cody Gakpo were not pictured in Liverpool’s team training on Monday. If Salah doesn’t travel, their only recognized winger would be 17-year-old Rio Ngumoha.

The Reds are not in imminent danger of missing the Champions League knock-outs. However, a loss to Inter on Tuesday could be the end of their hopes of automatic qualification to the round-of-16.

That would mean Liverpool would need to play two extra games in February to qualify for the round-of-16. But, recent history suggests that’s not the end of the world. Liverpool finished top of their group in the revised format, last season, only to be knocked out in the RO16.

PSG, on the other hand, finished 15th and ended up winning the tournament.
