In a league defined by relentless attacking quality, keeping opponents out week after week is one of the toughest tasks in English football and only a select few goalkeepers have mastered it across years, not just moments.

Simply put, goals win headlines but clean sheets win seasons. From title-winning dynasties to survival battles, these shot-stoppers became foundations for success, turning pressure into routine and chaos into control.

This is the all-time Premier League clean sheets leaderboard.

5 – David Seaman – 141 clean sheets

Few goalkeepers are as instantly recognisable as David Seaman, and even fewer are as closely tied to an era of dominance.

Seaman was the backbone of Arsenal’s greatest Premier League sides, anchoring famous defensive units under George Graham and Arsene Wenger.

His clean sheets came during some of the club’s most successful seasons, including the 1997/98 and 2001/02 title-winning campaigns, where defensive control was non-negotiable.

Seaman got 138 of his 141 playing for Arsenal, with the remaining 3 clean sheets coming during his time with Manchester City.

4 – David de Gea – 147 clean sheets

For more than a decade, David de Gea was Manchester United’s last line of defence and often their best.

All 147 of his Premier League clean sheets came in a United shirt, making him the club’s outright leader in the competition. While the team around him fluctuated post-Sir Alex Ferguson, De Gea’s elite shot-stopping consistently kept United competitive.

His ability to produce match-saving moments saw him win two Golden Gloves, including one in 2022/23, his final Premier League campaign. At his best, De Gea didn’t just protect leads, he created them.

3 – Mark Schwarzer – 152 clean sheets

Mark Schwarzer’s presence this high on the list speaks volumes about consistency rather than glamour.

Across long spells with Middlesbrough and Fulham, Schwarzer built his legacy through reliability, professionalism, and sheer durability. He remains the only non-UK goalkeeper to make over 500 Premier League appearances, a remarkable achievement in itself.

What makes his 152 clean sheets particularly impressive is the context. Many came while playing for mid-table sides, where defensive margins are thinner and protection less forgiving.

Fortunately, Schwarzer’s late-career medals with Chelsea and Leicester became bonuses of a remarkable career.

2 – David James – 169 clean sheets

Like Mark Schwarzer, longevity defines David James’ Premier League story.

Holding the record for most Premier League appearances by a goalkeeper (572), James’ career spanned two decades and five clubs, cutting across eras and styles.

His 169 clean sheets reflect an ability to adapt, endure, and remain relevant in a league that rarely shows patience. More than 70 of those cleansheets came for Liverpool, 39 with Portsmouth, and in and around 20 for Aston Villa, Manchester City, and West Ham.

1 – Petr Cech – 202 clean sheets

At the summit stands Petr Cech, and the gap is telling.

Cech is the only goalkeeper in Premier League history to surpass 200 clean sheets, and he did so in fewer appearances than any other keeper in the top five.

His arrival at Chelsea in 2004 immediately reshaped defensive standards, highlighted by a record-breaking 24 clean sheets in the 2004/05 season, a mark that still stands, as per Statmuse.

He was the foundation of multiple title-winning sides at Stamford Bridge, later proving his class and durability with Arsenal. Add in four Golden Glove awards, and Cech’s legacy becomes undeniable.
