Scoring once in the Premier League is hard enough. Doing it three times in a single match is a statement, of form, confidence, and ruthlessness.

Across the league’s history, only a handful of players have turned hat-tricks into habit, using individual brilliance to overwhelm defences and decide games almost single-handedly.

This is a list of the Premier League’s most prolific hat-trick scorers, and the records that set them apart.

5 – Wayne Rooney – 7 hat-tricks

Wayne Rooney’s hat-tricks were never about poaching or padding numbers, they were explosions.

Across his Manchester United career, Rooney produced six Premier League hat-tricks, often in games where he took complete control. One of his seven hat-tricks came for Everton.

Whether dropping deep to dictate play or leading the line, his ability to score different types of goals in quick succession made him uniquely dangerous.

For a player whose legacy is built on versatility and sacrifice, seven hat-tricks underline just how devastating he could be when everything ran through him.

4 – Michael Owen, Harry Kane, Thierry Henry & Erling Haaland – 8 hat-tricks

Four generational forwards. Four very different profiles. The same ruthless outcome.

  • Michael Owen was pure speed and instinct, punishing defensive mistakes before opponents could react.
  • Thierry Henry combined elegance with brutality, often scoring hat-tricks that felt effortless.
  • Harry Kane delivered his through intelligence, positioning, and deadly finishing.
  • Erling Haaland, already here despite his relative lack of seasons, does it through raw power and relentless movement.

That Haaland already sits alongside these names after such a short time speaks volumes, and suggests this position may not be permanent. In fact, it would be a surprise if Haaland is not atop this list by the time he leaves the Premier League.

3 – Robbie Fowler – 9 hat-tricks

Few players embodied Premier League-era finishing like Robbie Fowler.

Nicknamed “God” by Liverpool supporters, Fowler’s nine hat-tricks came during an era when defensive protection was minimal and finishing had to be instant.

His movement inside the box was almost impossible to read, and when he caught fire, goals arrived in waves. For many, possibly the greatest natural finisher to play the game, it’s only fitting that Fowler is on this list.

2 – Alan Shearer – 11 hat-tricks

Consistency was Alan Shearer’s defining trait and his hat-trick tally reflects that.

Across spells with Blackburn Rovers and Newcastle United, Shearer delivered 11 Premier League hat-tricks, blending physical dominance with clinical finishing.

Whether from penalties, headers, or thunderous strikes, he had every tool required to overwhelm defenders.

As the Premier League’s all-time top scorer, it’s fitting that Shearer also sits just one step away from the summit here.

1 – Sergio Aguero – 12 hat-tricks

At the very top is Sergio Aguero.

The Manchester City legend produced 12 Premier League hat-tricks, more than any player in the competition’s history.

What separated Aguero wasn’t just volume, it was efficiency. He often needed fewer chances, fewer touches, and fewer minutes to dismantle a defence completely.

Aguero’s hat-tricks were moments where games stopped being competitive. In a league filled with iconic scorers, no one turned a single afternoon into a personal highlight reel more often than Sergio Aguero.
