Manchester United’s impressive 3-2 win over league-leaders, Arsenal, was majorly influenced by Patrick Dorgu. The Danish fullback started on the wing, scoring the second goal for United, to put them 2-1 up in the second-half.

It was an inspired display from Manchester United and Dorgu, but unfortunately for Michael Carrick, they won’t be able to name the same side against Fulham on the weekend.

This comes after Dorgu suffered a hamstring injury in training. For what it’s worth, Carrick does have plenty of options in his squad to replace Dorgu’s impact.

Patrick Dorgu ruled out for up to 10 weeks after suffering hamstring injury

Dorgu had come off against Arsenal with a suspected cramp. Talking to the media, post-match, Carrick explained it was hard to pinpoint what the problem was, and they were hopeful it was “only a cramp”.

However, upon further scans, it has been confirmed by Fabrizio Romano that the 21-year-old Dane has been ruled out for more than two months.

As per the timescale, Dorgu will miss around eight Premier League matches. His expected date of return is against Leeds United on the 11th of April.

Michael Carrick’s options for replacing Patrick Dorgu in the starting XI

For Carrick, it’s the first curveball he’s had to contend with during his time at Old Trafford. Dorgu had been superb since Carrick took over, and it’s definitely a kick in the teeth for the youngster.

Fortunately, there are plenty of options for the 44-year-old in his squad. Matheus Cunha scored a fantastic long-range goal to win United the game against Arsenal. But he could only come off the bench, with Dorgu starting on the wings.

So far, Carrick’s been spot on with his team selection and changes. Before United’s big win at the Emirates, they dismantled Manchester City, too, which was a proper masterclass from Carrick.

Similarly, there’s also Benjamin Sesko, who joined United in the summer. The Slovenian has looked very lively since Carrick took over but did not start against Arsenal. He also can call upon the services of Mason Mount to tinker with his squad.
