Can all the promoted sides stay up in the Premier League after fantastic weekend results?
Last Updated on 27 October 2025
It’s rare to see all three promoted sides looked this comfortable this early. Burnley, Leeds and Sunderland have brought fresh energy to the Premier League.
And after another Premier League weekend of impressive results, fans are starting to ask a question no one expected: can all three actually stay up?
With 38 points between them after nine games, this trio of underdogs looks solid and is giving the league’s old guard a real scare.
All three promoted sides won their respective games with confidence
Sunderland have been the story of the season.
Just months removed from almost missing out on promotion, the Black Cats now sit fourth in the Premier League table after their stunning 2-1 win over Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.
Their 17-point haul from nine games equals their best-ever Premier League start and puts them among elite company. Only five newly promoted teams have ever done better, and all of them survived.
Meanwhile, Leeds United are quietly building something solid under Daniel Farke. Their 2-1 win over West Ham took them to 11 points.
It’s a total that, in Premier League history, has always been enough to stay up at this stage of a season. Elland Road has become a fortress again, with eight points earned from five home matches.

And, Burnley, in their own way, are doing something special under Scott Parker. They edged Wolves 3-2 in dramatic fashion thanks to a stoppage-time winner from Lyle Foster, earning back-to-back victories for the first time since 2022.
Promoted sides looking great is an ominous sign for the likes of Wolves, West Ham and Nottingham Forest
For the past two seasons, all promoted sides have gone straight back down. And, for many, that indicated the growing gulf between Premier League and the Championship.
For the 17 surviving sides, it was great news as they enjoyed a relatively relaxed time in the league, but this season promises to be different.
Wolverhampton Wanderers boardroom called an emergency meeting after winning only two points from 9 games. No side in Premier League history has ever survived the drop after a start that poor.
West Ham United have already sacked Graham Potter, hiring ex-Nottingham Forest and ex-Wolves manager, Nuno Espirito Santo. But like Wolves, West Ham have also lost 7 of their 9 games indicating their worst start in 52 years, with one win putting them only two points ahead of Wolves.
Forest make up the current relegation spots in 18th place. They have sacked two managers already, becoming the first Premier League side to do that before Christmas. Forest are without a Premier League goal in 440 minutes.
If results don’t pick up, all three promoted sides do the unthinkable and it could breathe new life into the entertainment that Premier League brings.
