Tottenham Hotspur have made an excellent start to the 2025/26 season under new manager, Thomas Frank, losing only once in all competitions.

However, international duty can sometimes bring terrible news when it comes to injuries. And unfortunately for Tottenham fans, they have been dealt a major blow.

Yves Bissouma stretchered off minutes after coming on for Mali against Madagascar

The Spurs star was on the bench for Mali and only came on after the hour mark with the home side 3-0 up.

Bissouma’s struggles started early on in the season, having nursed a knee injury during pre-season with Tottenham. He managed to get back to full fitness, making his first appearance of the season.

But only minutes after coming on, Bissouma got the ball off a stray pass, only to be at the end of a terrible tackle. It left him writhing in pain, clutching his left ankle, while pounding the turf repeatedly.

Not being able to leave the pitch on his own, the medical staff brought the stretcher, as Bissouma pulled his shirt over his head.

This comes as a huge setback for the player but also for Thomas Frank and Spurs, who haven’t been able to call on the Malian due to injury concerns. And now, the club holds their breath as they wait to find out the seriousness of the injury to the 29-year-old.

Thomas Frank’s depth midfield should get them through Yves Bissouma’s injury

Unlike the last few years, Tottenham have managed to build a proper squad coming into this season. That has led to a superb start to the new campaign with a win over Leeds moving them upto third in the table.

Frank secured the loan signing of Joao Palhinha from Bayern Munich, and the Portuguese midfielder has been excellent for Spurs.

Meanwhile the likes of Rodrigo Bentancur and Pape Matar Sarr have been putting in reliable shifts.

In fact, Spurs’ midfield has been the reason for their resolute defensive performances, with the new boss prioritising pragmatism over exciting football, as per the BBC.

As far as the next few weeks are concerned, Frank will hope his midfield rotations can deliver before he has to call upon the services of Yves Bissouma.
