Mohamed Salah set to be denied ‘farewell’ at Anfield after huge update from the Saudi Pro League
Last Updated on 10 December 2025
Liverpool’s win at the San Siro ended up fueling more drama around the club after Mohamed Salah’s forced exclusion from the squad.
Post-match comments from Arne Slot and a selfie from Liverpool’s Egyptian King did not help alleviate the situation, either.
A public fallout, an uncertain selection, a looming exit, and now fresh noise from Saudi Arabia have combined to turn what should have been a celebratory moment for Mohamed Salah into a cloud of uncertainty.
Saudi Pro League pursuing Mohamed Salah with Liverpool legend ‘likely’ to miss Brighton
Saudi Pro League CEO Omar Mugharbel has openly confirmed that Mohamed Salah remains firmly on the radar of the Gulf league.
The comments land at a sensitive moment for the Liverpool forward. Salah was left out of the squad for the Reds’ win over Inter Milan following his explosive comments, a decision backed fully by Liverpool’s hierarchy.
Crucially, Salah had suggested he would “say goodbye” to fans after Liverpool’s home clash with Brighton. But his participation in that match is now severely in doubt, as per talkSPORT, with the Egyptian legend set to leave post-Brighton to join up for AFCON duty.
Arne Slot addressed the situation after Liverpool’s win, in a revealing exchange with Amazon Prime.
Slot said, “The first thing should be does the player think he’s made a mistake as well? I haven’t said I’m not going to talk to him. But the focus (tonight) should be on the players (that played against Inter). The next question is, should the initiative come from me or from him?”
For now, that question remains unanswered and with Saturday fast approaching, the prospect of a proper farewell is increasingly slim.
Liverpool extend unbeaten run to four in all competitions
Liverpool’s 1-0 win against Inter at the San Siro means they are four games unbeaten in all competitions.
Crucially from Salah’s perspective, it’s also the same run in which the Egyptian has only featured for 45 minutes. After 9 defeats in 12 games, going four unbeaten signals the start of a run.

Liverpool still have a long way to go to match their levels from the season before. But with favorable fixtures coming up, this could be Slot’s best chance of turning his Liverpool career around.
