Premier League records that have stood for over 20 years – Will they ever be broken?
Premier League has produced moments of individual brilliance that have defined entire eras. But some achievements go beyond the memorable. They become immovable markers in the history of the game.
Records that survive every generation of superstar to come through the division. Mohamed Salah put the finishing touches on one of the greatest-ever individual campaigns in 2024/25, it threw into sharp relief just how many landmarks set by the legends before him still stand.
Here are five of the longest-surviving records in Premier League history, ordered from newest to oldest.
All-time top scorer – Alan Shearer (260 goals) | Set: 2006
Shearer’s record of 260 goals in 441 Premier League games continues to stand, officially crossing the 20-year mark as of April 2026. Only three players have ever surpassed 200 Premier League goals: Shearer (260), Harry Kane (213) and Wayne Rooney (208).
Salah, on 192, has the talent but perhaps not the time to close the gap. With Liverpool’s Egyptian King confirming his departure at the end of the current campaign, that record looks increasingly permanent.
Fewest goals conceded in a season – Chelsea (15) | Set: 2004/05
Chelsea’s remarkable record of conceding just 15 Premier League goals in 2004/05 remains intact. For many, this is a record that truly seems impossible to break, especially considering the way Arsenal faltered this season.
Jose Mourinho’s side, built around Petr Cech, John Terry and Ricardo Carvalho with Claude Makelele shielding them in midfield, also kept 25 clean sheets that season, another record that still stands.
Since then, Chelsea in 2005/06, Manchester United in 2007/08 and Liverpool in 2018/19 all got closest by conceding just 22 goals but still seven more than Mourinho’s fortress.
Longest unbeaten run – Arsenal (49 games) | Set: 2003/04
Arsenal went a record 49 consecutive top-flight league games unbeaten from May 2003 to October 2004, breaking Nottingham Forest’s previous record of 42 set between November 1977 and November 1978.
Wenger’s Invincibles completed an entire 38-game season without defeat, something no team has managed before or since. Liverpool came closest in recent memory, as per Opta, making it 44 before losing to Watford just before COVID hit.
Most assists in a season – Thierry Henry (20) | Set: 2002/03
Only one player in the history of the Premier League has both scored 20 or more and assisted 20 or more in a single season: Thierry Henry, with 24 goals and 20 assists for Arsenal in 2002/03.
Kevin De Bruyne matched the assist tally in 2019/20, but Henry’s half of the record has stood for over 23 years. Salah came agonisingly close in 2024/25, while Mesut Ozil hit the magic number of 19 before faltering.
This season, Bruno Fernandes is on the verge. He has 18 assists already, and with United playing five more games, he could easily break the record. But will he get over the line? That remains to be seen.
Most goal involvements in a 38-game season – (47) | Set: 1993/94
When Andrew Cole finished the 1993/94 campaign with 47 goal involvements, it did not feel like a record that would stand the test of time. That feeling was correct as Alan Shearer equalled the record only a season later, grabbing 47 involvements of his own.
However, Salah wrote himself into the history books on the final day of 2024/25, tying the all-time record for most goal involvements in a Premier League campaign with 47, joining Andrew Cole in 1993/94 and Alan Shearer the following season.
Now, Salah did it in a 38-game season, while the likes of Cole and Shearer did it in a 42-game season. But, in 2026, it has now been 32 years and that record has not been broken.
