For years, Arsenal were known for flair and free-flowing football under Arsene Wenger, but it’s their old-school grit that could define Mikel Arteta’s modern-day Gunners.

With nine games gone and only three goals conceded, Arsenal are on track to shatter a Premier League record that many believed would stand forever.

There are still seven months of Premier League football left but Arsenal’s defence definitely does look impenetrable.

Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal are defending like champions – even better than Jose Mourinho’s Chelsea

Mikel Arteta’s meticulous rebuild has turned Arsenal into a defensive machine.

From William Saliba’s calm authority to Declan Rice’s positional intelligence, every player in red and white contributes to the collective resistance.

Arsenal’s pressing triggers, rest defence, and set-piece routines are better than any other side in Europe. Overseen by specialist coach Nicolas Jover, Arsenal are easily the most complete defensive unit in England.

Their six clean sheets and mere three goals conceded in nine matches underline a team that can grind out 1-0s as effectively as it dazzles.

If Arsenal continue at their current pace, they will finish the season conceding fewer goals than Jose Mourinho’s legendary 2004–05 Chelsea side. For context, that Chelsea side only conceded 15 goals in 38 rounds of Premier League matches.

On current projection, as per ESPN, Arsenal will only concede 13 if they maintain their superb defensive solidity.

Can Liverpool and Manchester City keep up with Arsenal’s fast start?

Arsenal are four points clear at the top of the table but six clear of Manchester City and seven of champions, Liverpool.

To entertain the possibility of a title race, both Liverpool and City will have to fix up. Pep Guardiola’s side already has three losses this season, while Liverpool have lost four on the trot.

Arsenal’s next five Premier League fixtures feature two trips to promoted sides, and three matches against fellow London opposition. That includes a North London derby at home and Chelsea away.

If Liverpool and City don’t get a string of wins together, Arsenal could truly run away with the title before Christmas.
