“He has lost the fans”: Liverpool fans want Arne Slot gone after his shocking comments post Fulham draw
Last Updated on 4 January 2026
The mood among the Anfield faithful has shifted from frustration to outright anger following Liverpool’s dramatic 2-2 draw against Fulham at Craven Cottage.
While conceding a 97th-minute equalizer to Harrison Reed was a bitter pill to swallow, it was manager Arne Slot’s post-match comments that have truly ignited a firestorm on social media.
The game itself was a rollercoaster that perfectly encapsulated Liverpool’s inconsistent 2025/26 campaign.
Trailing to a Harry Wilson strike, the Reds fought back through Florian Wirtz and looked to have snatched a victory when Cody Gakpo scored in the 94th minute.
However, the joy was short-lived. Moments later, Fulham substitute Harrison Reed unleashed a stunning long-range strike to level the scores, leaving Liverpool languishing in fourth place, now a staggering 14 points adrift of league leaders Arsenal.
Arne Slot’s comments after the draw against Fulham
While the result was disappointing, the post-match press conference effectively poured gasoline on the fire.
Slot said:
“We hardly conceded a chance against them. They had one chance in the second half… but for the rest I think we controlled the game and yes I would love us to create more from our ball possession. I will tell you this my football philosophy hasn’t changed! We have to do it with the players we have available.”
“Realistically I think there are two teams [Arsenal and Manchester City] who are quite far away from us and we should not look at those two at this moment in time.”
Slot continued to defend his team’s performance, citing bad luck and injuries to key players like Mohamed Salah (AFCON) and Alexander Isak. “So many points have disappeared for us,” he lamented, pointing to a recurring theme of conceding late goals.
However, his refusal to engage in title talk, essentially conceding the race in January, has struck a nerve.
For a manager in his second season, having won the league in his debut campaign, this sudden shift to lowering expectations has been met with incredulity.
Arne Slot’s post-match comments spark backlash
The backlash was immediate and fierce. Social media platforms like X and Reddit were flooded with reactions from supporters who feel the manager’s mentality no longer aligns with the club’s ambitions.
Many compared his comments with Roy Hodgsons’ who during his stint insisted Liverpool fans to accept mediocrity.
Another said: “He sounds like he is managing a relegation team.”
Another wrote: Standards have completely gone if the club think this is acceptable. It’s time some of the “club journos” interview Edwards and Hughes and give them a very hard time for some answers for the fans who have to endure this mediocrity. We are the reigning PL winners. Embarrassing.
Slot’s claim that Liverpool controlled the game and were merely unlucky was labeled as “delusional” by irate supporters.
With Fulham enjoying 42% possession and matching Liverpool for big chances, fans felt the manager was gaslighting them regarding the performance level.
“He thinks he’s managing Fulham, not the other way around. I’m so tired of the excuses. We are 4th and he’s talking like a mid-table manager. He has lost the fans.”
Another said: “Imagine Klopp saying we shouldn’t look at City or Arsenal. He would never. Slot has accepted mediocrity. If he doesn’t believe we can catch them, why should the players?”
Results and performances aside, Arne Slot’s words have seemingly caused irreparable damage to his relationship with the fanbase.
With a daunting trip to face league leaders Arsenal next, the pressure on the Dutchman has never been higher.
