The Etihad Stadium hosts a blockbuster fixture on Sunday, as Manchester City take on Liverpool in the Premier League.

It’s a game that does not need to be hyped as it already is big enough. But this time around, it means a little bit more for Manchester City manager, Pep Guardiola.

For many, the Spaniard is the greatest manager of all time and his success speaks for itself but a win on Sunday will be huge for the serial winner.

When the final whistle blows on Sunday, regardless of the result, Pep Guardiola would have managed 1000 games.

Since taking over at Barcelona B in 2007, Pep’s career has yielded 40 trophies and a success rate of more than 71%.

In comparison, serial winners like Sir Alex Ferguson and Jose Mourinho both managed a 63% win rate in their first 1000 games.

What makes it even more impressive is the fact that more than half of Pep’s 1000 games have come in the toughest league in the world, the Premier League.

As per the Guardian, speaking ahead of his 1000th game, Pep said, “We have won incredible things in Barcelona, Bayern Munich and here. It is difficult to reach and if I start again I would not reach it, it is too much games. A few defeats in 1,000 games and hopefully on Sunday I hope we can continue.”

Is Pep Guardiola the greatest of all time?

It is hard to argue with numbers and accolades but Pep’s influence on the game is truly unmatched.

The Spaniard has won everything there is to win. He dominated La Liga with a brilliant Barcelona side, for many, the greatest club team to exist.

Then, he joined Bayern Munich and won a league title every season in Germany as well as two domestic doubles.

After that, he came to England and after a slow start in his first campaign, he proceeded to win the Premier League six times including four successive wins.

Sprinkle three Champions Leagues in there as well as two trebles and you can’t really argue with his greatness.

But it is Pep’s influence that puts him at the very top. Many of his proteges have become successful managers in their own right.

His style of football has inspired greatness, bringing a change in the English pyramid with even League 2 sides building up from the back.
