Liverpool’s summer signing, Hugo Ekitike, is back in the headlines. This time not for his on-field heroics, but for an off the pitch moment.

The Frenchman was strongly linked with a move to Newcastle in the summer but in the end, he chose to join Liverpool in a £69m move.

Hugo Ekitike has wasted no time to make an impact, earning praise from Thierry Henry for his outstanding form.

While he continues to shine on the pitch, the striker has now come under criticism for an off the pitch incident.

Hugo Ekitike films himself using his phone while driving

Liverpool’s new striker filmed himself using his phone while driving his £200,000 Mercedes G-Wagon.

The clip saw him showing off his car’s sporty orange and black dashboard.

He then flipped the camera in the video to show himself mid-drive twice before posting the footage directly to Snapchat.

As per Daily Mail, under UK law, holding a phone while driving, even when stopped, can attract a £200 fine and six penalty points.

Whether the police or the club takes subsequent action remains to be seen but Liverpool will no doubt speak with him behind doors.

Hugo Ekitike receives first call-up from France

The 23-year-old striker is off to a great start in England, scoring three in three before blanking against Arsenal.

His swift adaptation to life in the Premier League hasn’t gone unnoticed at France with Didier Deschamps handing Ekitike his first senior call-up to the French national team.

The former PSG marksman benefitted from Rayan Cherki’s misfortune as injury ruled the Manchester City midfielder out of contention.

As a result, Ekitike received a well-deserved call-up to represent France for the first time. For Liverpool, the timing couldn’t have been any better.

The call-up also ends speculation that Ekitike might switch international allegiance to Cameroon.

Had that happened, Arne Slot would have risked losing both Mohamed Salah and Ekitike to the AFCON in January. For now, the Reds can breathe a sigh of relief.
