Tottenham exploring deal to sign Andy Robertson from Liverpool
Last Updated on 23 January 2026
Liverpool revamped their attack in the summer window but missed out on signing Marc Guehi on deadline day. Now, with Manchester City snapping up Guehi, and the Reds light on players at the back, they might have to go big on defenders in the summer.
Nottingham Forest have been exploring a move for Liverpool’s leftback, Kostas Tsimikas, who is currently on loan to Roma. But with Roma apparently keen on cutting the loan short in January, Liverpool may look to move the Greek defender on to Forest in January.
However, the Reds have been dealt another blow, according to reports, with their vice captain, Andy Robertson considering a move to Tottenham Hotspur in January.
Tottenham to ‘bring forward’ plans to sign Andy Robertson from Liverpool in January
David Ornstein dropped the bomb on 23rd January, reporting that Tottenham Hotspur were closing in on a deal with Liverpool for Robertson.
According to The Athletic, the Reds and Robertson are on very close terms. As a result, when Tottenham’s proposal arrived, the Merseyside club decided not to be a hindrance in the 31-year-old’s future.
Tottenham, meanwhile, had planned to sign Robertson in the summer, on expiry of his contract. But with Milos Kerkez hitting a purple patch of form, Liverpool might have softened on their stance to let their vice-captain leave.
It’s also not a coincidence that Liverpool were planning to recall Tsimikas in January. If Robertson does depart for North London, Tsimikas might remain at Anfield as cover for Kerkez.
In Andy Robertson, Liverpool will lose another legend after summer of change
Robertson may not be as good as he once was, but without the Scotsman, Liverpool would not have scaled the heights they did in the last decade.
The 31-year-old formed a strong partnership with Trent Alexander-Arnold, terrorizing opposition with their runs and deliveries.

For Liverpool, Robertson’s exit will indicate another exit of a reliable superstar. While Kerkez has continued to look excellent in recent weeks, Robertson on the bench, offered a sense of security.
As far as Tottenham are concerned, Robertson will bring a ton of winning experience to North London. Their current left-back depth consists of Destiny Udogie and Djed Spence, both under the ages of 25. Robertson’s arrival would be a guiding hand for Spurs’ talented youth.
