Ismaila Sarr scored a quickfire brace in the first half at Anfield as Liverpool lost 3-0 to Crystal Palace in the Carabao Cup.

That defeat means Liverpool have now lost six of their last seven fixtures in all competitions.

Crystal Palace, meanwhile, joined four other Premier League sides in the Carabao Cup quarter-finals.

Anfield empties as Crystal Palace make it 3 wins in 3 against the champions

Arne Slot named a very young and inexperienced side making 10 changes. Crystal Palace, on the other hand, went pretty much full strength at Anfield.

Given Liverpool’s tough round of fixtures, with Aston Villa, Real Madrid and Manchester City all within the next fortnight, it was an understandable decision from the Dutchman.

However, with a sixth defeat in seven games, patience among fans is definitely wearing thin.

Ismaila Sarr loves playing against Liverpool as the Senegalese was on target twice in the first half. Yeremy Pino added a third late on for the Eagles to round off a superb result.

There will be little sympathy afforded to Slot after recent results and the pressure will be on the Liverpool head coach to show progress after resting most of his first team.

Chelsea edge thriller, Manchester City come from behind as Newcastle and Arsenal record solid wins

The Carabao Cup served up another night full of entertainment and goals.

Chelsea’s comfortable 3-0 lead was challenged late on by Wolves at the Molineux with Liam Delap getting sent off in the Blues’ 4-3 win.

Manchester City had to fight it out after Swansea City went a goal up early through Goncalo Franco. But Jeremy Doku’s equalizer brought them back in the game as Omar Marmoush and Rayan Cherki sealed a win for the Citizens.

The defending champions also came through. Newcastle United hosted Tottenham at St James Park and put in a solid performance scoring on either side of half time to win 2-0.

Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal also qualified for the next round, quite comfortably, beating Brighton 2-0 with goals from Ethan Nwaneri and Bukayo Saka.
